Publishing Announcement!!
Also... please hire me.
Self promotion! It’s not my favorite thing to do. I’ve never been the type to talk myself up, so just know that every time you see a new newsletter or project related social media post from me, that I am operating way outside of my comfort zone. I don’t know why I felt the need to put that disclaimer out there before clubbing you over the head with some project updates, but I guess maybe that’s my way of feeling less like a carnival barker and more like the overthinking, reclusive, pessimism dabbler that I am. So, there ya go. Anyway…
BIG NEWS! It’s actually something I’ve known for months but wanted to wait a bit closer to the finish line before announcing. We’ve found a publisher for our upcoming horror/noir comic, “My Little Boy”. We will be releasing the book through Warden Comics!
Warden Comics began in 2020 by founder, Ludie Sexton. In the past six years, Warden has released several titles including Crow and the Eternal Night, Requiem in Relke, Double Cross, NOD as well as the anthologies, Monstrosities, O, and the upcoming Dreamlands anthology. Warden Comics has proven to be a place where creators are not only allowed to, but encouraged to be bold and present their work with uncompromising vision. I’ve gotten to know Ludie quite a bit over the past few years and he is not only a fantastic writer himself, but a person who truly understands and appreciates the limitless possibilities of the comic medium.
Hernan Gonzalez - my friend and artist for “My Little Boy” - and I are outrageously excited to work with Warden Comics. The product we will be bringing you will be our unfiltered vision, published by a team who genuinely supports creativity. We are PUMPED and we hope you will be too.
Speaking more of “My Little Boy”, we are in the home stretch, folks. Issue one will be thirty-two pages and, as I type this, we have twenty-seven pages of art complete. Hernan is wildly in-demand and has been working on not only this book but several others. One of those books happens to be for legendary horror director John Carpenter and his publishing company, Storm King Comics.
The anthology is John Carpenter’s: Tales for a Halloween Night vol 11. Hernan’s story is called Tailybone! and was written by Andre R. Frattino. Please stop by their website and grab your copy now!
Somehow, in the midst of all of this work, Hernan has found the time to sleep, be a parent and husband and also surprise me with a variant cover for our book. I debated sharing it here but I think I’ll save the reveal for our Kickstarter pre-launch. But, as I said, it was a complete surprise to me. Hernan came up with the concept based on his impression of the story and he absolutely knocked it out of the park. We really hope you guys like it once when it comes out. Until then, please enjoy cover A.
As for me, I’ve recently finished writing my first feature length screenplay and I’m also working on a script for a pilot. These, of course, are spec scripts and aren’t attached to an actual project but, who knows? Maybe one day I’ll trick someone into buying them. Until then, I’m just gonna keep writing.
Now, I don’t know if it’s bad form or not to canvass for work on a newsletter but I’m going to do it anyway. I am available to take on writing work if you or someone you love is a publisher or an artist with a story you’d like to flesh out but aren’t a writer, yourself. I’m always ready to get to work and tell new stories. Send an email to samophlange2@gmail.com and let’s talk.
Well, I hope everyone has a happy holiday season in spite of… you know… the world. Don’t let all the civil unrest, societal regression and upsurge in violence ruin your holidays. It’s fine. We’ll be fine. Everything’s fine. Right?
I’ll talk to you soon.
Steve
